Parking
Use the main car park at Moss O’ Balloch in Balloch town centre and start from the South Lodge main gates. A smaller car park by the Castle has only a few disabled bays; all park car parks get very busy in summer.

Trail guide
The Castle View Route is a roughly 3 km (1.9 mi) circuit in Balloch Castle Country Park. From the South Lodge gates, the main avenue climbs to the castle-front outlook; a steep zigzag then drops to the shore. The return follows gravel beside Loch Lomond as it becomes the River Leven, crosses a wooden bridge and rejoins the avenue. Allow about an hour on foot.
The castle frontage is the payoff: the path opens to views over Loch Lomond and the hills beyond. Continue around the front, then take the zigzag down; it is steep in places and is best treated as a descent, not a climb. The gravel shore leg changes from loch edge to river corridor before the bridge. For a distinctive picture, include the castle façade with the loch and hills behind it. This is a short, managed park walk, but that sharp descent may not suit everyone.
Start at the South Lodge main gates. The main car park is at Moss O’ Balloch in Balloch town centre; a smaller car park by the Castle has only a few disabled bays, and all lots get busy in summer. Benches line the shore, and a small food vendor by the slipway is not open daily; Balloch has other refreshments. Dogs are allowed under close control or on a short lead and must stay out of play areas.
