The Cobbler from Succoth“You're approaching the Succoth trailhead for the Cobbler, the three-topped mountain above Loch Long. Allow five to six hours for the steep, six and a half mile return; the forest path becomes rough and rocky higher up.”

Trail guide
This is an 11-mile (17.5 km) loop from Loch Long car park in Arrochar, climbing up Glen Loin before circling Coiregrograin and returning above Succoth. The 11 miles cover the full loop. Expect 4–5½ hours and about 455 m of ascent. It’s a proper half-day on foot rather than a summit bag: the reward is changing scenery and long views of the Arrochar Alps, Ben Lomond and Loch Long. Paths and tracks cover the route, with no summit climb.
From the car park, follow the road toward the A83, then leave it near Loin Water for an upstream track. A Cowal Way-marked path climbs past farm buildings and can be wet. After a wooden footbridge, climb broken slopes beneath the pylons, with Beinn Narnain and A’Chrois appearing through gaps. Near the first rise, the path drops slightly and keeps left through bracken in summer. This isn’t the final climb; the high side of the circuit lies ahead.
The path heads through trees toward Coiregrograin and can flood. Stay on the path: the ground to the right is very deep bog, and fallen trees make the left-hand detour difficult. A gate and bridge over Inveruglas Water bring you to a road; take the left track at the fork. Loch Sloy dam is visible farther up the glen. It was built for Inveruglas power station, which helps explain the lines of pylons on this walk. A long, gradual climb along Coiregrograin’s east side leads to the high point: a sluice below a cascading burn, with Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ìme closing the glen ahead.
Past the sluice, descend through forest. Before a small dam, take the rougher track over a usually dry burn bed, then climb its far side. The route drops under the rocky slopes of A’Chrois before turning high above Glen Loin. This is the best stretch for views: Ben Lomond looks pointed from here, then Loch Long opens toward Coulport. Pause for it; there’s still a long way back. The track passes above Succoth, drops through the hamlet, then follows paths and footbridges across the A83 to the car park. Loch Long car park is chargeable. Dogs are allowed under Scotland’s access rules; keep them under proper control, with a short lead or close at heel in fields with livestock and in nesting-bird habitat from April to July.
