Trail guide
This 3-mile (5 km) loop links the River Eachaig and the River Massan from Benmore Botanic Garden. Expect mostly even, level ground, woodland paths and old road, with several bridges and one short stretch of narrow, uneven footing. Allow 1½–2 hours; the Park Authority grades it moderate.
From the garden car park, cross the A815 and pass Eckford House on the old road. An iron footbridge takes you over the Eachaig; follow the riverside path to Glen Massan Road, cross its bridge and walk upstream beside the Massan. The path is narrow and uneven in places, then turns to a forest road and a track through a disused gravel pit and mature plantation. At the Glen Massan road, the signposted Deargacha Walk is an optional side loop, separate from this circuit; its extra distance is not given. Return along the road, cross the stone bridge over the Massan and follow the Eachaig back past an old bridge and weir to the garden car park.
Walking boots and suitable clothing are recommended. Toilets and a snack bar are reported at the garden car park; check locally for current opening hours. Dogs are allowed under Scotland’s access rules; keep them under proper control, especially around wildlife.
