Diablo Lake Overlook“You're coming up on Diablo Lake Overlook, a stop I'd keep even on a short drive through. The lake, wooded islands, and steep peaks spread out below you, with no hike needed for the main view.”

Guide
Thunder Point is a three-site boat-in camp on Diablo Lake, about two miles from the Colonial Creek Campground launch. Its dock provides a landing point. All Diablo Lake boat-in camping requires a backcountry permit, so plan this as an overnight destination rather than a roadside stop.
Diablo Lake is a reservoir in the Skagit Hydroelectric Project, with forested coves, islands and bays along the valley. Glacial meltwater keeps the water especially cold, and the lake can be very windy. Give your crossing room for conditions instead of assuming a calm paddle.
