It’s a straightforward day-use pull-in that exists for one reason: get you onto alpine slopes quickly. Expect a simple lot, big mountain surroundings, and hikers gearing up for short-but-steep objectives.
What you’ll do from here
Most people use this as the jumping-off spot for Little Arethusa and loops or scrambles that weave through Arethusa Cirque. Trails are not formally signed and sections are rough, so bring route-finding confidence. It also works as an end-point for point‑to‑point days like Pocaterra Ridge if you arrange a shuttle or bike approach.
Facilities
Amenities are minimal: pit/vault toilets are provided, and that’s about it. There are no water taps or flush facilities, so arrive self‑sufficient.
Best time to visit
Highway 40 access is seasonal, and this area is open June 15–November 30. “Larch season” and holiday weekends can spike demand—start early to lock down parking and beat the rush.
