Overview

Lower Kananaskis Falls is a waterfall visited along the Upper Kananaskis Lake circuit. Alberta Parks identifies it as one of the sights on the 15.7 km lakeshore route.

Access

Approach on the Upper Lake trail network from a designated day-use trailhead. This northern-side waterfall is different from Sarrail Falls, which lies on the south shore about 1.1 km from Upper Lake Day Use. Allow time for the full route you choose and consult current trail information.

At the falls

View the water from established trail locations and keep back from slippery edges. The lakeshore route passes through forest and rocky sections, with mountain weather and seasonal footing changes.

Tips for Lower Kananaskis Falls

  1. 01Start from Upper Lake Day Use for the shortest approach to the falls.
  2. 02There are no facilities at the falls; use the toilets at the day‑use areas.
  3. 03Carry your own drinking water even if hand pumps are present at trailheads.
  4. 04In early winter, pack microspikes for icy, shaded sections.
  5. 05If you continue the loop, remember bikes are only allowed on the 3.5 km north segment.
