This is an about 11 km one-way walk from Heathcote Station to Waterfall Station, passing Karloo Pool and Uloola Falls. Allow 4 to 6 hours. It makes a proper cross-park day without retracing, but the footing and elevation change around Karloo Pool make it more than a gentle stroll. The route is graded 3, with formed track and some obstacles. Start at Heathcote if you want to descend toward Karloo Pool; walk it the other way if you would rather climb out from the pool and save the ridge views for later.

From Heathcote Station the path enters the bush quickly, then narrows and drops across rocky ground toward Karloo Pool. The pool is a cold freshwater swimming hole beneath a tree-covered sandstone cliff, with smooth rock shelves along the edge. Give yourself time here: it is the route's natural break, not a roadside stop. Beyond the pool the track crosses the creek and climbs over rough, sometimes rooty ground toward the ridge; on the reverse walk, this is the steep climb out of the pool.

Uloola Falls and the Waterfall sideThe track continues through heath and sandstone country to Uloola Falls.

The track continues through heath and sandstone country to Uloola Falls. The upper area is shaded and has a place to pause; a rough, steep path drops toward the lower cascade, where wet rock can be slippery. Flow varies with rainfall, so the falls may be a light trickle after a dry spell. For a photo, include the reddish rock ledges and the pool beneath the overhanging branches; that shows the small cascade's shape better than filling the frame with water alone.

From the falls, follow the broad Uloola fire trail toward Waterfall. This is a long, mostly gentle stretch through dense scrub and woodland, with less variety underfoot than the Karloo side. The route narrows into a shady path near the Waterfall station end. Spring brings heathland flowers, and gymea lilies send up their tall red flower stalks in warmer months. Look beneath sandstone ledges for the hanging nest of a rock warbler.

The walk begins at Heathcote Station and finishes at Waterfall Station, so trains suit the route well. If driving, arrange a pickup or use the train between ends; parking near Waterfall can be limited on weekends. Carry your water for the full walk because no refill point on the route was verified. The track can become boggy after rain, and the creek crossing near Karloo Pool can hold water. Dogs are not allowed, apart from certified assistance animals.
