Uloola Falls

Uloola Falls is an intermittent waterfall that drops into a rock pool in Royal National Park. It's a walk-in destination, not a roadside stop. The Karloo Walking Track from Heathcote Station is a 10 km return Grade 3 walk; allow 3–5 hours. Come for a good bushwalk as much as the water, because the cascade can be small or absent in a dry spell.

NPWS also lists the Uloola Walking Track as an 11 km one-way walk taking 4–6 hours, for a longer through-walk. The last approach to the falls is on foot. A separate, rough descent toward the base is unmaintained and steps over large rocks; skip it when the rocks are damp.

This is a bushwalk stop, so bring food and drinking water; there’s no food service at the falls. Uloola Falls Campground nearby lists toilets for its overnight visitors, but don't count it as a day-use service at the waterfall.

Uloola is an intermittent waterfall. After rain, you’re more likely to see a proper cascade; in a dry spell, flow can dwindle to almost nothing. The falls and pool make the main photo, though reaching the closer base view means taking that rocky descent.

On the walk in, look for the Whaleback sandstone outcrops, named for their resemblance to whales surfacing, and the nearby Uloola Turrets. Spring brings heathland flowers, including the red-flowered gymea lily. Rock warblers build hanging nests beneath sandstone ledges along the track.
