Best time to go
The wider Uloola walk passes through heathland, with spring wildflowers and gymea lilies flowering in warmer months. The Karloo route can turn boggy after rain, so drier conditions make the walk easier.

One Bird, Many Voices“If a whole chorus of bird calls seems to come from one spot on a forest walk, it may be one superb lyrebird. These birds copy the calls around them and weave them into their own song.”

Guide
Uloola Turrets are weathered sandstone outcrops along the Karloo Walking Track in Royal National Park. They’re worth exploring if you’re already heading toward Uloola Falls, but I wouldn’t make them a separate visit. The Karloo walk from Heathcote is a Grade 3, 10 km return route with a suggested 3–5 hours; leave time for the outcrops on top of the walk.
The Turrets are rounded sandstone outcrops, separate from the nearby Whaleback formation. Look for water-filled hollows in the broad rock slabs when conditions allow. For a photo, keep one of those hollows and its sandstone rim in the foreground; it shows the rock itself, not just the surrounding bush.
