This is a quick out-and-back to one of the park’s most popular water spots: a seven‑metre sandstone cascade dropping into a clear swimming hole. Expect roughly 1.9 miles total (about 3 km) and 30–60 minutes, with around 120–130 m of elevation on the return climb. It’s a straightforward walk that turns punchy near the creek, and the waterfall is seasonal—best after rain.
Start on Warumbul Road at the gated fire trail. The first stretch is a wide, mostly flat, sun‑exposed, stony track. As you near South West Arm Creek, the grade steepens and footing turns loose. You’ll reach rock platforms at the top of Winifred Falls; a short, steep path leads down to the pool at the base. The rock shelves make easy spots to sit and take in the falls.
If the falls area is busy, head downstream about 300–400 m to South West Arm Pool, a larger, emerald‑tinged swimming hole. The track is narrower, rougher, and can be overgrown, and the pool is tidal, so depth and clarity vary. For a longer outing, cross the creek near the falls and follow the formed track toward Anice Falls. Access is typically to the top; reaching the base involves off‑track scrambling. A fuller circuit linking the falls, South West Arm Pools, and Anice Falls is about 5.7 km.
Go after rainfall for the best flow, but expect slick rock. Hot weekends draw crowds—arrive early for parking and a quieter swim. Midweek mornings offer the calmest experience. For photography, soft light in the early morning or late afternoon flatters the sandstone and pools.
Parking is a small roadside pull‑off on Warumbul Road; spaces are limited and rangers check passes. A vehicle entry fee applies for the park. There are no facilities on the trail; the nearest toilets and cafe are at Audley. Pets are not permitted. Road gates can close after hours, and conditions or fire weather can trigger closures—check park alerts before you go.
Wear sturdy footwear with good grip for the loose, steep sections and slick rock around the falls. If you plan to swim, pack a towel and check depth before jumping. Carry water and sun protection; shade is limited along the fire trail.
