Glen Haven General Store

The Glen Haven General Store is a small park gift shop and historic exhibit in the village center on Glen Haven Road. It sells souvenirs, books, videos, postcards, snacks and convenience items, with a compact exhibit about D.H. Day. It makes a good short stop while walking around the village; the exhibit is brief, not a full museum visit.

Under D.H. Day, this was more than a shop. It served as the town’s post office, telegraph station, steamer ticket and freight office, lumber salesroom, real-estate office and weather station. Lumbermen and dock workers were paid in company scrip they could spend only here, tying their wages to the store at the center of the town’s daily life.

Day’s wife declined the large house he built for her and chose to live in rooms above the store. Buildings behind it once included an icehouse, granary and slaughterhouse, alongside a croquet lawn. The mix of work, home and leisure gives the site a fuller story than its sales floor alone.

Treat the store as a quick addition to a walk through the historic village. Public restrooms and vending machines are nearby in summer, and parking serves the village. The store operates seasonally, so check the current schedule before making it your main reason to stop.
