Guide
Sköttsberg Lake Viewpoint is a named overlook along the foot trail between Sector Paine Grande and Sector Italiano. It is an en-route pause on that backcountry hiking corridor, not a drive-up stop. The full sector-to-sector stretch is 7.5 km and about 2.5 hours, with moderate difficulty; in winter, park rules require a guide on this part of the W Trek. Check current trail notices before setting out.
The view puts Sköttsberg Lake beneath jagged, snow-dusted peaks. For a stronger photo, include the bare shoreline branches in the foreground; they frame the water and add depth to the distant mountain skyline.
The lake is named for Carl Sköttsberg, a Swedish explorer and botanist who studied the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic regions in the early 20th century. The lookout is one of the named landmarks on the Paine Grande–Italiano walking corridor, so it fits naturally into a crossing rather than a separate excursion.
