Mirador Pehoé

Mirador Pehoé is a hiking viewpoint on Lake Pehoé’s western shore, reached from Paine Grande by a lakeside walk and an uphill finish. It’s a good choice if you want a wider look at the lake and Paine range, but it takes a real outing. This is the west-side trail lookout, not the quick roadside stop across the lake.

The return walk from Paine Grande is about 7.1 km (4.4 miles). Allow two to two and a half hours, with extra time if you want to linger at the view. The route follows the shore through lenga and ñirre trees before climbing to the lookout. The viewpoint also sits along the longer trail between Paine Grande and the park administration area, so decide where you’re turning around before you start.

From the lookout, the lake spreads out below the Paine mountains. Paine Grande stands to the left and the Cuernos del Paine to the right, with low islands breaking up the turquoise water. For a photo, keep some of the lake and island line in the foreground; that gives the peaks a sense of scale.

The shore walk through lenga and ñirre is part of the payoff before the landscape opens at the lookout. Plan this around the hike; it is not a quick stop on the road.
