Paine Grande is a remote mountain refuge and campground on Lake Pehoé, with shared bunk rooms, tent pitches and a ferry landing nearby. It is one of the main overnight bases on the western side of the W Trek, with routes continuing toward Grey Glacier and French Valley. There is no road access to the refuge itself: most visitors arrive on the roughly 30-minute catamaran from Pudeto or hike in. Book a bed or campsite ahead and plan it as an overnight stop.

Beds, tents and shared spaceThe refuge has shared bunk rooms with lockers; the operator lists capacity for 100 guests.

Shared bathrooms and hot-water showers serve the campus. Campers have a sheltered communal cooking area; cooking is prohibited in tents, refuge rooms and outdoors.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch (including box lunches) and dinner, with vegetarian meals available by request. The operator also lists burgers and pizzas. There is a bar and a small coffee and market store with basic groceries, snacks, coffee and some hiking gear, useful when the nearest alternative is a long hike away.

The lakeside setting looks toward the Cuernos del Paine and Paine Grande massif, and the ferry and trail access make the refuge unusually convenient for a remote trek. That convenience brings a busy, shared-service feel. Visitors often praise the scenery and location, but report crowding around meals and bathrooms; shower conditions and food experiences vary. Come for the access and mountain setting, not a quiet or hotel-like stay.
