Lower Barry Creek Camping Area

Lower Barry Creek is one of five overnight hikers’ camps in the northern wilderness of Wilsons Promontory National Park. It is an on-foot stop on a multi-day route, with bushland around it rather than a drive-up campground. Come as part of a planned northern circuit; this is not a short detour or a casual first night outdoors. The final leg from camp to Five Mile Road car park is about 10.3 km, usually three to four hours.

Only a campsite is provided, with no visitor facilities. A Hiker Self Assessment Form is required before a hiking permit is issued. Some route sections are marked, while others are undefined, so you need to be confident navigating with a map and compass. Plan food, shelter, water and waste management for a self-sufficient wilderness hike. Creek water reliability is not established, so do not count on it as a dependable source; check current park advice and carry a safe water plan.

Groups are limited to six people at a campsite, and stays are capped at two consecutive nights. This camp earns its place on a serious northern itinerary by breaking up the remote route. If you want an easy day walk or a campground with facilities, choose another stop.
