Wilsons Promontory National Park, VIC
A woodland stroll ends among the world’s southernmost mangroves.
Overview
Millers Landing Nature Walk is a 4 km out-and-back from Five Mile Carpark to mangroves on Corner Inlet. Allow about 1.5 hours for the full return. It’s an easy Grade 2 walk and a good short pick if you want woodland and an unusual coastal finish without making a day of it. The mangroves here are the world’s southernmost stand, and Corner Inlet is an internationally significant wetland for migratory birds. This is more about reaching a tidal edge than earning a big panorama.

Trail guide
After the management gate, turn left for the signed nature walk. It winds through open banksia and stringybark woodland, with bracken along much of the track. At the fork, keep left; the right branch is Miller’s Landing Link Track and creates a different, longer circuit, not this 4 km return. Before the path drops toward the water, there’s a seat with a view across the inlet, though shade is limited. The woodland stretch is easy; the more demanding footing comes near the end.
The final section descends over loose gravel and sand, and can be slippery when wet. At the bottom, the trail ends at mangroves and tidal mudflats. If you want to explore along the shore, low tide is the useful window. Nectar-feeding birds are a seasonal highlight in spring and summer. From the landing, frame the mangroves against the mudflat for a photo that shows the tidal setting.
Park at Five Mile Carpark and return on the same path. Picnic tables are at the carpark, but there are no facilities on the walk. Dogs aren’t allowed. The right fork is the separate Miller’s Landing Link Track, not a shortcut back on the official route. If you’re after a longer outing, Vereker Outlook is another walk from Five Mile; it’s a different destination and route.
