Guide
Point Sublime is a named overlook on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, at the end of the Artist Point–Point Sublime Trail. The out-and-back is 2.6 miles from Artist Point. It is a real walk, not a roadside pullout, and the rim views along the way are a big part of the reason to go.
The trail follows the canyon edge, with views down to the Yellowstone River and the colorful walls. The open spots along the approach can be clearer than the final point, where trees partly screen the view. Pause at the rim openings; if the endpoint feels like more walking for less view, turning around is a reasonable choice.
From above, the Yellowstone winds through a steep, multicolored canyon. For photos, include the river beneath the walls so the depth reads in the frame; a tight crop of rock loses the scale.
The trail starts at the east end of the large Artist Point parking lot in the Canyon area. The lot can be busy during peak summer. Vault toilets are at its west end, and pets are not allowed on the trail.
