Permits and food storage

Yosemite requires permits for overnight wilderness trips year-round, and trailhead quotas limit how many people can go. Walk-up permits can be scarce, so don't count on arriving at the last minute with a particular route in mind. Rangers can help with wilderness safety and food-storage questions; bear canisters are available to rent or buy.
