Best time to go

A signed spur leaves the Coast Track, climbs steeply, then drops toward the falls. The path can be muddy or slippery after rain. If your route crosses Torrent Bay estuary, the low-tide crossing is possible within two hours either side of low tide; the all-tide track goes around it. Carry meals, snacks and drinking water: there are no food stops along the Coast Track.

More about Cascade Falls

A deliberate Coast Track detourCascade Falls is a multi-tier waterfall in native bush beside the Abel Tasman Coast Track…

Cascade Falls is a multi-tier waterfall in native bush beside the Abel Tasman Coast Track between Anchorage and Bark Bay. Set aside about 1 hour 30 minutes for the return side trip; steep sections make this a planned stop on a Coast Track day rather than a quick walk from a car park.

The falls in their forest settingWater steps over dark rock ledges among mossy boulders and ferns.

Water steps over dark rock ledges among mossy boulders and ferns. From near the base, include a mossy rock in the foreground and keep the cascade above it in frame; that gives the drops context in the dense bush. Take care on wet rock around the falls.
