Standish Viewpoint Loop

The Standish Viewing Deck Loop is an easy 0.5-mile loop from the upper terminal of Standish Express. The on-foot circuit is about 0.8 km; allow about an hour for the complete outing, including the chairlift ride. It is a good choice if you want high-alpine scenery without committing to the longer Sunshine Meadows trails.

From the upper chairlift, follow either signed path toward the deck; the two branches meet at the viewing platform before returning to the terminal. The route is mostly smooth, gently graded trail with a few short uneven sections. From the deck, look for Rock Isle, Grizzly, and Laryx Lakes below. I would keep this as the quick payoff before deciding whether to continue toward the lake trails.

Ride the gondola to Sunshine Village, then transfer to the Standish Express chairlift; the loop does not begin at the gondola base. Park at the Sunshine Village gondola base and have your park pass and water ready before riding up. Restrooms and food are at the village, not beside the deck. Weather changes quickly at 2,400 m, and the trail is seasonal with lift access, so check operating status before setting out. For a photo, frame the deck railing or a little trail in the foreground with the blue lakes and peaks beyond. Stay on the signed path to protect alpine plants, and carry bear spray in this bear country.
