Martin's Lookout

Martin's Lookout is a rocky outcrop above Glenbrook Creek near Springwood, on the lower edge of Blue Mountains National Park. It looks across a steep, bush-covered gorge toward the sandstone cliffs around Lost World. This is a compact lower-mountains stop, with a close, wooded view rather than a broad escarpment panorama. The lookout itself is a short walk over uneven ground and rock steps.

From the rock edge, follow Glenbrook Creek through the forest below and scan the opposite ridge for the small white cross at Lost World. The plaque at Martin's Lookout faces it. For a photo, keep some of the sandstone ledge and foreground trees in the frame; they show how the lookout sits above the valley.

The plaque and the cross across the creek remember a local reverend and bushwalker who died at Wollongong in 1953 while trying to rescue a student from drowning.

Reach the area from Farm Road in Springwood, but check the current access and parking before setting out. Older directions describe rough road and parking farther from the lookout; newer information places the road endpoint much closer, and the exact arrangement is unclear. From the viewpoint, longer tracks drop steeply to Glenbrook Creek and climb toward Lost World and Bunyan lookouts. That valley walk is a much bigger undertaking than the brief lookout visit, with rocky steps and a tiring climb back.
