“Up ahead is Portal lookout, where the view follows Glenbrook Gorge to the Nepean River and out across the Cumberland Plain toward western Sydney. It's a good choice for a wide landscape view without a hike.”

Portal lookout sits on the lower ridges above Glenbrook Gorge, where the gorge meets the Nepean River. From the short path, the view carries on past the river and across the Cumberland Plain toward western Sydney. If you are already exploring Glenbrook, this is a rewarding short stop for a wide landscape view without committing to a hike. For a photo, include the sandstone gorge rim in the foreground and let the river lead your eye out across the plain.

Several designated accessible parking spaces sit by the lookout, then a short all-access path leads to the platform. The approach roads are unsealed; the park lists 2WD access, while visitors repeatedly mention bumps and potholes. Allow for a rougher drive than the short walk suggests. Glenbrook access uses seasonal park gates, so check the current gate schedule before setting out.

An old riverbed on the ridgeLook for the large rounded stones called lapstones.

Look for the large rounded stones called lapstones. They show that the ridge top was once an ancient riverbed.

Angophoras, dragons and climbersThe rocky ridge supports angophoras with contorted limbs.

The rocky ridge supports angophoras with contorted limbs. Bearded dragons are often seen basking on nearby rocky outcrops, and the cliffs also draw climbers and abseilers. That gives the place a little more going on than the view alone.
