Trail guide
Nepean River walking track is the short 1.8 km loop from Euroka campground’s grassy clearing, down through Fairlight Gorge to the Nepean River and back up via Bennetts Ridge. You get a sheltered gorge and a riverside pause without giving up half a day, but the steps and climb make it more than an easy campground stroll. Allow 30 to 45 minutes, plus a break at the water.
The formed track heads east into a narrow canyon with sheer walls. In its damp shade, ferns, lilli-pilli and coachwood make the walk feel much more enclosed than the open clearing above. There are many steps and some obstacles; it is Grade 3, with some bushwalking experience recommended. The track is signposted, though turns can be easy to miss, so keep the route map handy.
The bottom is a small picnic and swimming stop, not a broad beach. The river edge can be narrow and sloping, with limited level room to sit. Water dragons may bask near the bank; spring is when wildflowers add color along the walk. Bring your own drinking water. If you are planning a swim, check current conditions before getting in.
The return climbs steeply by Bennetts Ridge. Steps and uneven ground are the effort here, and the track can be boggy after rain. Park at Euroka campground; toilets and picnic facilities are close to the start. Park entry fees apply. The Glenbrook gate is locked overnight and its opening hours change by season, so check access before driving in. Dogs are not allowed except certified assistance animals.
