Overview

About Tunnel View walking track

Why go

  • A broad gorge view with the 1911 rail tunnels in the cutting.

Heads up

  • Very short; most of the visit is the view, not distance on trail.
From the lookout, look across the railway cutting to the pair of tunnels built in 1911, then out toward Kurrajong and the basalt-capped Mount Banks and Mount Tomah. The gorge and wooded ridges do most of the work; the tunnels are a small but distinctive detail in the wider view. In warmer months, woody pears and white flannel flowers bloom nearby. May can bring feeding flocks of red wattlebirds, honeyeaters and noisy friarbirds. If you take a photo, keep some of the rocky foreground with the gorge so the depth reads.
Parkwolf’s verdictThe view is the payoff

“A rainbow in waterfall spray depends on where you're standing. Sunlight bends as it enters each droplet, reflects inside, then bends again on the way out. Different colours leave at different angles.”
