Kittys Beach

Kittys Beach is a 50 m west-facing pocket of sand about 1 km north of St Georges Head. Vegetated slopes and Kitty Point shelter it from the open coast. Keep it on your list if you are already up for the southern headland walk; it is a detour for a swim, not a quick drive-up stop.

Start from Steamers Beach car park and follow the marked St Georges Head circuit to the signed side track. The approach narrows to sand, then drops to the beach on a sandy track with rough wooden steps. The 11.4 km loop takes about four hours if you visit its main sites. Extra beach and lookout spurs make it longer; one route account that included several side trips came to about 14 km. Bring food and water for the walk, and stay on marked tracks.

The beach faces west and Kitty Point blocks much of the swell. Only low waves reach the sand, making this more of a sheltered swim than a surf stop. At just 50 m long, it is a compact cove backed by thick coastal vegetation rather than a broad open beach.
