“You're nearing Cave Beach's car park, with a walk through the day-use area to reach the sand. Come for the open ocean shore and surf; the caves are small, shallow openings in the rocky edge.”

Ryans Swamp is a coastal wetland beside the walking route from Cave Beach’s camping area to Bherwerre Beach. From Cave Beach car park, follow the main track to the camping area, then take the path on its western side around the swamp toward the beach. It’s a pause to fold into that walk, not a separate lookout.

Watch the reedsSwamp hens, egrets and ducks use the wetland, and frogs, snakes and turtles live here too.

Swamp hens, egrets and ducks use the wetland, and frogs, snakes and turtles live here too. The southern emu-wren also favors the dense, damp heath near the water. It stays low in the vegetation, so a quiet, patient look from the path is your best chance of spotting one. Give wildlife room and watch from a distance.

Start at Cave BeachThe Cave Beach camping area is about 300 m from its car park.

The Cave Beach camping area is about 300 m from its car park. Public toilets, fresh water, cold showers and wood barbecues are at the nearby camping and day-use area, not beside the swamp. The visitor route is a path around the wetland; treat it as a wildlife pause on the way to the beach.
