Guide
St Georges Head is a rocky headland on Booderee’s southern coast, where dark outcrops break into the ocean. Go for a close look at the rugged shoreline; this is a walking destination, not a quick roadside viewpoint.
Follow the marked Circuit Trail from Steamers Beach car park. The full loop is 11.4 km, grade 3, and takes about four hours to visit the main sites. The headland itself is a short side trail, but the overall outing is substantial. Bring food and water, and stay on marked tracks.
The spur reaches rocky cliffs and outcrops beside the water. Look for the broken rock shapes against the open bay; keeping water in the frame helps show how the headland meets the sea.
Captain James Cook sighted Jervis Bay in April 1770. It was St George’s Day, so he named the headland St George’s Head.
