Boston Mill Visitor Center

Boston Mill Visitor Center is Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s main orientation stop, inside a rehabilitated 1905 general store in Boston, about 2.5 miles north of Peninsula. If you’re new to the valley, start here before choosing your day. Ask staff about park destinations, pick up a map and the Valley Guide, then trace your plan on the center’s tactile tabletop model. The park store focuses on educational and interpretive merchandise.

In the south room, a tactile 3D model sits between murals that face north toward Cleveland and south toward Akron. It gives you a quick geographic frame for the park. Exhibits also connect the building’s history with the rehabilitation of the Cuyahoga River and its valley.

The building was constructed in 1905 as the Cleveland-Akron Bag Company’s general store, beside a mill that made flour sacks and roofing paper. The business employed nearly 200 people, many Polish immigrants from Cleveland. Workers could buy goods at the store on credit and settle their accounts on payday. It’s a small detail that makes the old store part of the town’s working life, not just a preserved facade.

The exhibits are focused, so think of this as a trip-planning and local-history stop rather than a full-day museum. The staff are a real reason to come in: ask for help matching a hike or outing to the kind of day you want. You can also browse the park store for interpretive and educational items.

The center sits at Riverview Road and Boston Mills Road, with the parking entrance on Riverview and oversized/RV parking across the intersection. It’s roughly 2.5 miles north of Peninsula. The building is wheelchair accessible, with an elevator, accessible flush restrooms, drinking water and a bottle-filling station; the restrooms remain open when the center is closed. Hours shift by season and holiday, so check current hours before making a dedicated stop.
