A practical Lock 29 stopThese are the public restrooms at Lock 29 Trailhead in the center of Peninsula.

These are the public restrooms at Lock 29 Trailhead in the center of Peninsula. Park at the Mill Street trailhead, then follow the paved, wheelchair-accessible path to the building. It has two flush toilets, each with an accessible stall, and a baby-changing station.

There are benches and an outdoor orientation panel by the doors. Drinking water and a bottle-filling station are listed here, but water is seasonal, available spring through fall; don't count on a winter refill.

Peninsula was established by Hermon Bronson in 1824 and grew after the Ohio & Erie Canal opened in 1827. The Valley Railway arrived in 1880. A pumping station nearby once supplied river water to steam trains, and the outdoor panel explains that part of the story.
