The scenic railroad runs immediately beside the shop, so a passing train can turn a quick browse into a fun extra. It’s a timing bonus, not something to build a visit around. The shop is in the same village area as the depot and the Towpath.

Peninsula grew into an industrial town and overnight stop on the Ohio & Erie Canal, with boatyards, mills, hotels and taverns. Nearby Lock 29 is a separate walk from the shop; its path leads into the lock, with exhibits about the canal and an aqueduct that once crossed the Cuyahoga River. The railroad reached Peninsula in 1880, and its construction removed a bend in the river to reduce the need for bridges. Today the depot serves scenic railroad passengers.
