Daintree Ice Cream Company is a farm-gate ice-cream shop in Diwan, set in a 22-acre tropical-fruit orchard on Cape Tribulation Road. It’s 14 km north of the Daintree Ferry, so it fits naturally into a drive up the coast. Try the changing fruit flavours and leave time for the free self-guided orchard walk. Plan it as a dessert break, not lunch. Some recent visitors report tour buses crowding the counter, so the quiet garden feel isn’t guaranteed.

Guide
The company makes small batches of ice cream, sorbet and gelato from fruit grown on the property. Its signature cup combines four flavours chosen to work together, and the mix changes with the harvest. Davidson plum, soursop, jackfruit and sapote are among the possibilities, not a fixed menu; vegan options are available too. It’s a fun way to try several unfamiliar fruits at once, though the set mix can frustrate anyone who wants to choose every flavour.
Labelled trees line the drive into the orchard, and the free self-guided walk takes you through its tropical gardens. The operator describes more than 15 species of rare and exotic fruit trees across the property. Rainforest-clad hills make a green backdrop, and visitors describe shaded garden seating. The walk is part of the stop, not a separate hike.
Tracey Brady started the company in 1993, when the property had no mains power, town water or proper road. The business grew around making small batches from the fruit grown here, turning a roadside orchard into one of the Daintree region’s distinctive food stops.
