Jindalba Day-use Area

Jindalba is a large day-use picnic area in dense lowland rainforest beside a creek, near the foot of Mount Alexandra in Daintree National Park’s Cape Tribulation section. It’s a good place to stop for a proper shaded break; the same car park also gives access to two walks, so you can make this a quick rest or a longer outing. The name Jindalba is translated as “foot of the mountain.”

The 650 m return Jindalba Boardwalk is the easy option, threading through rainforest beside several creeks. The separate Jindalba Circuit Track is 3 km, about 1.5 hours and Grade 4. It’s stony in places and crosses rainforest creeks, so save it for when you want a proper hike rather than a leg stretch.

Look on tree trunks for leaf-tailed geckos and Boyd’s forest dragons, and up in the canopy for buff-breasted paradise kingfishers. Cassowaries are possible here, but never something to count on. The creek and thick lowland forest are the draw; take the park’s crocodile warning seriously around the water.
