Guide
Floravilla is a roadside ice creamery in Cow Bay, set among tropical garden foliage. Stop for a prepacked tub and take it into the garden; this is a relaxed ice-cream break, not a café meal or a scoop counter.
The flavour board changes with seasonal fruit, so choose from what's available that day. The signature Daintree Rainforest mix combines lemon myrtle, coconut, ginger, vanilla, kale and spirulina. The firmer, homemade texture divides people; give a tub a few minutes to soften after it comes out of the freezer.
Shaded garden seating is part of the visit, with customer parking and a customer toilet on site. Floravilla is about 11 km north of the Daintree Ferry, and Cow Bay Beach is about 5 km down the road if you want to pair the stops.
The business began in 1982 with rainforest scones, later ran an al fresco restaurant, and eventually became an on-site ice creamery. Its Vanilla Classic has a memorable origin story: an Italian ice-cream maker shared a family recipe said to be about 200 years old.
