Guide
Myall Beach is a long, palm-fringed stretch of sand just south of Cape Tribulation’s rocky headland. Rainforest slopes run down to the shore, with the Coral Sea in front. It’s a good stop for a beach walk and that rainforest-to-reef setting; come for the coast, not for a swim. For a photo, include the palms and forested slope behind the surf to show the meeting of forest and sea.
The grassy day-use area beside the car park has sheltered picnic tables and flush toilets. Those facilities are at Dubuji, not on the beach itself, so plan your break around the shore walk.
Swimming isn’t safe to recommend here. Crocodiles inhabit the region, and marine stingers can be present year-round, especially in warmer months. Follow the warning signs and check current park alerts before you head out.
Dubuji means “place of spirits” and names the adjoining day-use area and boardwalk; it isn’t another name for Myall Beach. The beach is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, recognized for its biological diversity and record of evolutionary history. Here, that larger story is easy to see in the rainforest meeting the sea.
