Start and facilities

You can begin at Bellever or Postbridge car park. Leave time for the uphill walk; neither is a drive-up viewpoint. There is no seating along the route, and it is not listed as an accessible trail. Toilets and a picnic area are at the Bellever Forest access area, below the tor, not on the summit. No food service or drinking water is documented at the tor, so bring what you need for the walk.

More about Bellever Tor

Bellever Tor is a low granite summit on open moor above Bellever Forest, its 443 m crown scattered with rocks. You reach it on foot; the broad view from the top is the point. If you want a short Dartmoor walk with a clear destination, it earns the climb. If you need level, easy access, this is not the stop to choose.

The climb and its old landscapeThe tor trail is 4 km (2.

The tor trail is 4 km (2.5 miles) and uphill, with steep sections over a mix of surfaced track and unsurfaced moor. It passes through trees, prehistoric hut circles and grazing ponies before opening onto the moor for the final climb. The hut circles belong to Bellever’s wider prehistoric landscape; they are part of the forest approach, not features on the summit. Bring sturdy shoes and a waterproof for the rougher, changeable moor. At the top, frame a few summit rocks against the open hillside to show what makes this a tor.
