Riley Creek Mercantile is the park’s front‑door utility stop: the general store where campers check in, grab last‑minute supplies, and get oriented before heading deeper into Denali. It sits a short drive inside the entrance, beside Riley Creek Campground and near the Denali Bus Depot.

What it offers

Inside you’ll find groceries and snacks, camping basics (think stove fuel canisters, firewood, and ice), and a solid spread of souvenirs. There’s grab‑and‑go food—plus notably good ice cream—and even hot items at times. Staff can help with campground logistics and general entrance‑area questions.

Why it matters

If you’re camping, this is likely your first stop. Campground permits and any pre‑purchased park bus tickets are issued here (or at the Bus Depot), so getting squared away at the Mercantile saves time and backtracking. It’s also the closest, most convenient spot inside the park to restock or fix a forgotten gear item.

Adjacent facilities

Right next door (summer only) is the shower house and coin‑op laundry—clean, simple, and a godsend after a dusty day. An RV dump and potable water fill station are also located by the campground complex, making this the practical hub for front‑country campers.

Food and gear notes

Expect a better‑than‑you’d‑think selection for a park store: snacks, drinks, some refrigerated/frozen items, and camping staples. They sell bear spray and isobutane/canister fuel for backpacking stoves. They do not sell propane for RVs/BBQs, so plan that elsewhere.

Connectivity and comfort

Cell service can be spotty in the entrance area, but the Mercantile offers WiFi and places to sit, which makes it a handy planning base while laundry spins or you wait on a shower token.

Crowds and timing

This place runs busiest when campers are checking in or tours return—late morning through late afternoon. Showers and laundry queue up around those windows. Early mornings and later evenings are calmer for both the store and the shower house.

Operations are focused on the main visitor season (roughly mid‑May to mid‑September), and hours can shift year to year. The adjacent showers/laundry and RV services are summer‑only—always confirm current dates and hours before you roll in.
