Oberlin Bend

Overview

Oberlin Bend is the final curve before Logan Pass when you’re driving up from the west. It’s a roadside pullout with a tiny lot and a short boardwalk-style loop that delivers outsized views for almost no effort. Think sweeping looks down the Going-to-the-Sun Road, the cliffs beneath the Continental Divide, and the rugged slopes of Mount Oberlin.

What you’ll see

From the overlook, you get panoramic vistas toward the Lake McDonald side and the dramatic rib of the Garden Wall. Scan the steep faces for hanging valleys, seasonal cascades, and waterfalls spilling off Mount Oberlin. It’s a classic Glacier scene without committing to a long hike.

Wildlife

This bend is famous for mountain goats. They’re frequently spotted on the nearby ledges and occasionally right beside the road. Give them space, keep food tucked away, and enjoy the show from a safe distance. Other subalpine wildlife sometimes makes cameos too.

Logistics & amenities

Expect a very small, high-demand pullout that fills quickly due to its proximity to Logan Pass. There are no services here—no restrooms, food, or water—so plan around the facilities at nearby major stops. The short, boardwalked loop starts right at the bend and makes this an easy add-on even on a tight schedule.

Best time to visit

• Early morning or late afternoon for a shot at parking and calmer vibes.
• Those same windows are often best for wildlife activity and softer light for photos.
• Midday brings the most congestion as traffic stacks up around Logan Pass.
