The trailhead is at Paddy Castle Carpark off Glenelg River Road. The approach includes an unpaved section, so allow a little extra time and drive to the conditions. There are no visitor facilities at the rock formation. Bring water, sun protection, and a layer for changing weather rather than relying on this being a quick roadside stop.
Early morning is the most comfortable choice in warm weather and gives the walk softer, cooler light. Late afternoon is better for photographs of the sandstone and valley, but the exposed rock can lose heat quickly after sunset. Paddy Castle fits well into a southern or western Grampians driving day; it is worthwhile as part of that itinerary, though the short walk alone may not justify a long detour.
