Trail guide
St George River Walk is an out-and-back from Allenvale Mill Camping Area to the Great Ocean Road. The connected mapped route is about 2.4 km each way, or 4.9 km return, and suits a relaxed 1.5 to 2 hour walk. A published park figure is shorter at 3.4 km return, so plan for the longer mapped distance until current signs confirm the route length. It is rated moderate, although the track is also described as generally flat.
The route follows St George River downstream from the campground toward the Great Ocean Road, then turns back along the same line. It is a simple river walk rather than a loop or a viewpoint climb. The river and its banks are the reason to come; the road is the clear turnaround. Other 5 km circuits in this area add Ocean Walk and are different hikes, not extensions to this stored route.
Allenvale Mill Camping Area is off Allenvale Road near Lorne. The camping area is a walk-in about 80 m from the access; Allenvale Carpark is the nearest mapped parking point, but its capacity and fees were not established. Dogs are allowed on lead on the St George River track.
