Guide
Allenvale is a 20-site, unpowered tent campground beside the St George River, just beyond Lorne. It suits a night in the bush with walking tracks nearby, but you cannot drive to the tent sites. Park at the car park and carry your gear about 230 m along the access track; a small trolley can make the trip easier.
The numbered tent sites sit in a grassy clearing surrounded by tall forest. There is a non-flush toilet block, picnic shelter, picnic tables and a water tank marked non-potable. Bring drinking water and your food, and take your rubbish away. Sites are tent-only, and there is no power.
The campground is on the historic Allenvale property. Jesse Allen established the property on about 100 acres by the St George River in 1880. His family grew hops and ran tea rooms near the bridge; in 1955, Abe Allen and his son Ron opened a golf course on the property.
