Gros Morne Wildlife Museum is an indoor wildlife exhibit and gift shop on Main Street in Rocky Harbour. More than 100 full-size Newfoundland animals appear in lifelike settings that range from mountaintops to the ocean floor, including forest, bog, beach and freshwater scenes. Moose, caribou, polar bears and puffins are among the animals represented. It is a chance to study local wildlife at close range through detailed displays.
Scene legends identify the animals in each habitat, and the museum offers a scavenger-hunt-style challenge for adults and children. The exhibit is designed for looking closely, with environmental sights and sounds and even the smell of a forest. If wildlife displays are not your thing, this focused indoor stop may not be a priority among Gros Morne’s outdoor attractions.
The separate gift shop sells seal-fur goods, antler carvings and souvenirs. The museum describes itself as an Indigenous-owned business and says the exhibit is wheelchair accessible.
