Trail guide
This is a 0.43-mile round trip along the first 350 m of the wheelchair-accessible boardwalk, then back the same way. It’s an easy way to get out over the wetlands without committing to the full circuit. Allow about 20 minutes at an unhurried pace; choose it when you want a low-effort visit rather than a longer hike.
The raised walkway crosses wetland plants beside Berry Head Pond. The surrounding bogs, ponds and forest make up a patchwork of coastal lowland, with songbirds and waterfowl worth watching for. The open views across the pond toward the distant mountains are the payoff. For a photo, include the boardwalk in the foreground with the pond and mountains behind it. At roughly 350 m, the boardwalk gives way to a narrower path that continues around the pond. Turn back here; the separate full loop is 2 km.
The access is on Route 430, about 6 km north of Rocky Harbour. This first section is identified as wheelchair accessible, but published width and gradient details are unavailable; check current trail conditions before you go. Pets are allowed on leash in the park, with some areas restricted by posted notices. Parking facilities, toilets and drinking water at this access are not specified in the trail information.
