Trail guide
Steve’s Trail is an easy 1 km out-and-back from Broom Point parking to the seaside meadow at the mouth of Western Brook. Allow about 30 minutes for the return. It is a short coastal detour rather than the longer Western Brook Pond hike.
From the lot’s washrooms, the footpath threads through tuckamore, Newfoundland’s name for coastal trees stunted by wind and frost. A narrow gravel path passes between grasses and low shrubs before opening at the shore. The meadow looks across the northern coastline toward Western Brook Gorge and the Long Range Mountains. The route is rated easy; detailed grade and surface notes are not available.
Steve’s Trail begins beside the washrooms at Broom Point parking lot and returns the same way. A separate gravel road leads to the restored summer fishing premises at Broom Point and a nearby cove with an 1800s cemetery site. The trail’s name recalls Steve, a local fisherman who used it to reach his fishing premises. Dogs may accompany visitors under park rules but must remain on a leash no longer than 3 m.
