Official details →Avoid the remaining storm- and safety-closed areas and use caution in the Kahuku Unit. - Mauna Loa Road beyond the gate at Kīpukapuaulu, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and Nāmakanipaio Campground remain closed because of storm and safety impacts. The A-Frame cabins at Nāmakanipaio reopened September 5. - Upper Kahuku Road remains closed beyond the boot decontamination station because of storm damage. The Visitor Contact Station and most Kahuku trails are open following Hurricane Lala. - Kahuku Road above the Lower Palm Trailhead is deeply rutted by recent heavy rains; a 4WD vehicle is recommended for access above the trailhead. Check current park conditions before traveling.
Official details →Plan around ongoing construction closures and access changes at Kīlauea summit. The project is repairing, improving, or removing infrastructure damaged by the 2018 earthquakes, summit collapse, and eruption. - Kīlauea Visitor Center, adjacent restrooms, sidewalk, lānai, and about half its parking are closed during renovations from February 18, 2025, to late 2026. Visitor services and the park store are available at the temporary Welcome Center at Kilauea Military Camp daily from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; park at the ball field, where portable toilets are available. - Tree Molds Road has intermittent closures. Pedestrians are permitted only on paved sections and must yield to heavy equipment; access via the northern gravel road from the horse corral is closed during construction periods. - Expect construction-related delays and reduced parking. Check current construction closures before traveling.
