It follows a broad, mostly straightforward fire road and finishes at a historic lookout site with wide views over Jasper and the Athabasca Valley.

It is also part of the northern Skyline approach, so hikers finishing the Skyline encounter this road as a long descent toward the Maligne Lake Road area.

The viewpoint marks the site of the former Signal fire lookout; the structure is gone, but the overlook remains a worthwhile destination.
