Overview
Arch Rock is a naturally sculpted granite arch (about 30 feet across) tucked into the White Tank area’s boulder piles. It’s one of the park’s most-photographed features and an easy win: a short, signed loop from the Twin Tanks/Arch Rock Trailhead leads you through classic desert scenery to the arch.
What You’ll See
- The main attraction: a graceful rock span framed by chunky, otherworldly boulders—great for creative photos.
- Bonus formations: Heart Rock and Whale Rock appear along the loop, adding extra eye candy without much extra effort.

Logistics You Should Know
- Access: Park at Twin Tanks (Arch Rock Trailhead). White Tank Campground parking is for registered campers only.
- Facilities: No restrooms, no water, and essentially no shade at the trailhead; the nearest vault toilets are at White Tank Campground.
- Connectivity: Expect little to no cell service—download maps before you go.
- Regulations: Pets aren’t allowed on the trail (service animals excepted). Backpacking in this area requires a permit.

- Light: Sunrise and late afternoon bring softer light and better textures on the arch and boulders—prime time for photos.
- Crowds: Weekends and holidays draw steady traffic. Midday gets busiest. Evenings—especially on weekends—can be popular with night-sky shooters.
- Comfort: Aim for cooler parts of the day year-round; this is a fully exposed desert walk.
Wildlife
Keep an eye out for lizards, desert birds, and the occasional small mammal. Dawn and dusk are your best bet for activity—observe from a distance and let wildlife do its thing.
