Parking

The short route is described from a small turnout on Desert Queen Mine Road near the west end of the mapped path, about half a mile south of the Pine City parking area. The park identifies Pine City as access to Lucky Boy Vista but does not identify this separate turnout in its current trailhead description. Its present condition and legal parking are unconfirmed; verify before starting. Do not assume the Pine City lot is the 2.5-mile route start.

Safety

The walk is exposed with little shade; carry water for the desert. The ground falls away at the overlook, so stay back from loose edges. Abandoned mine openings can cause serious injury: remain outside fences and coverings. Confirm access and legal parking at the reported turnout before setting out.

Hiking Lucky Boy Vista Trail

The short walkLucky Boy Vista is an easy, mostly level 2.

Lucky Boy Vista is an easy, mostly level 2.5-mile round-trip out-and-back from a small turnout on Desert Queen Mine Road. The path crosses open Queen Valley to an overlook, then returns the way you came. Allow about 1¼ to 2 hours; expect gentle ups and downs on an unpaved track. This is the short vista walk, separate from the 3.25-mile Lucky Boy Loop that starts at Pine City and returns on a connector and dirt road.

Near the mile mark, the path reaches the old Elton Mine area, where older trail descriptions place tailings and four covered, fenced shafts. The vista is about 100 yards beyond. The gold mine closed in the 1930s, and little machinery or building remains; the payoff is a broad look across the rocky desert, with Split Rock to the east. Stay outside all mine fencing and coverings.

The recorded short-route start is a small roadside turnout on Desert Queen Mine Road, south of the Pine City parking area. The park lists Pine City as access to Lucky Boy Vista but does not confirm this separate turnout or its current parking status. Verify that the turnout is accessible and legal to park at before setting out; Pine City is not the same 2.5-mile start. The route has little shade and no confirmed water stop, so bring water and plan for desert sun. Pets are not allowed on this trail.
