Guide
Sunset Campground is a developed, 158-site campground in a mixed evergreen forest at about 6,500 feet. It sits roughly three miles east of Big Stump Entrance Station, near Grant Grove Village, and works well as a base for the grove's big trees and nearby walks. Expect a campground spread through the woods, not the same view from every site.
The forest mixes sugar pine, incense cedar, fir and sequoia. Some western and upper-loop sites open toward a rocky edge with sunset views; many sites do not. Those view sites can also draw people walking toward the rocks, so compare the site map before booking if privacy matters more than the evening color. Campground sites vary in spacing and slope.
Black bears are active in the area. Keep food and scented items in the supplied lockers, including when you leave camp; the lockers are part of the stay, not an optional extra. From here, Grant Grove's nearby walks include the General Grant Tree and routes toward Ella Falls and Panoramic Point.
