Getting there

The visitor center is midway along Port Alsworth's easternmost runway. The approach from the road is described as fairly flat gravel, followed by flat cement and wooden-planked surfaces beside the exhibit. A wheelchair is available to borrow through the visitor center. The building has seasonal hours, but the outdoor exhibit is listed as accessible anytime.

NPS dates Charlie Denison, his son Floyd and wife Lena's move to Tanalian Point to 1932. Charlie and Floyd brought the community its first sawmill with help from several men and dog teams from Iliamna. Locals could work at the mill in exchange for shares of lumber, creating a barter system that helped shape development around Port Alsworth.
