Northern Campground is a designated overnight campsite on Litchfield's Tabletop Track, a remote 39 to 46 km loop through savanna woodland and rocky country. It's one of three camps on the loop, and its job is simple: it breaks a long walk. It isn't a swimming-hole or drive-up campground. If you're walking the circuit, use it; if you're looking for easy camping, choose a road-access campground instead.

The tradeoffPlan around this camp. Northern Campground has no water.

Plan around this camp. Northern Campground has no water. Carry everything you need and don't assume a creek farther along the route will be flowing. The approach and surrounding woodland can be hot, open and short on shade, so the overnight can be tough. The upside is the quiet and the sense of being out in the park.

The Tabletop Track is normally walked June through September, and campsites must be booked and paid for in advance. You reach Northern on foot via the loop or its link tracks from Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, Walker Creek or Greenant Creek. Bring sturdy boots, navigation, first aid, shelter, sun and insect protection, emergency communication, food and plenty of treated water. For a photo, frame the little blue route marker with the narrow track running through the sparse eucalyptus woodland. It tells the story of this place better than a generic waterfall shot.
